This particular Knife Gate Valve is mounted between the bottom of the Sand Silo and the top of the transporter tank. It is there to shut off the sand supply from the silo in order to perform maintenance work on the transporter / primary tank. This maintenance could include changing butterfly valves, changing pinch valves, repair piping, inspect for clumping, etc. This is standard equipment on all CWI Railroad System Specialists' Sand Systems.
